The Google Authenticator service has recently been updated, which can affect some SimpleFX accounts.

  • After the update, one-time Google Authenticator codes can be retrieved and stored on multiple devices using a single Google Account.
  • This new feature raises legitimate concerns about two-factor authentication security on SimpleFX user accounts using the Google Authenticator service.
  • Therefore, we recommend disabling Google Cloud Sync. You can also do this if you have already updated the Authenticator app.

To disable Google Cloud Sync, follow these two steps:

  1. Open Google Authenticator and tap your profile picture in the upper right corner.
  2. Tap “Use Authenticator App Without Account” and “Continue” to disable Google Cloud Sync.

If the synchronization has already taken place, we recommend generating new tokens for critical services, removing the old ones in Google Authenticator, and adding them again. In addition, some users may see an option where Google asks for permission to sync. Then just select “No” to use the account offline.

Note: After turning off Google Cloud Sync. Google Authenticator data will no longer be backed up to Google Cloud or synced across your devices. However, this will not affect your local data.
