Elon Musk’s OpenAI project will see a $1 billion investment by Microsoft, the companies declared on Monday. OpenAI is a project that is designed to construct artificial intelligence that can tackle more complex tasks.

This partnership will see the companies build new supercomputing technologies with Azure AI. Microsoft will be the exclusive cloud provider for OpenAI, the announcements declared. Both companies believe that the latest technology that they have plans for will be capable of solving problems that are much more complex than current AI. The technology is AGI – artificial general intelligence.
Artificial General Intelligence
In a press release, the companies stated: “Modern AI systems work well for the specific problem on which they’ve been trained, but getting AI systems to help address some of the hardest problems facing the world today will require generalization and deep mastery of multiple AI technologies.” 
They continued: “OpenAI and Microsoft’s vision is for artificial general intelligence to work with people to help solve currently intractable multidisciplinary problems, including global challenges such as climate change, more personalized healthcare, and education.”
Preferred Commercialization Partner
OpenAI announced that it would license a portion of the technologies that are “pre-AGI” rather than creating its product to build AI technologies at a cost. Thus, Microsoft will be its commercialization partner of preference.
Joining Forces
Microsoft and OpenAI have chosen to work together because they share ethics, trust, and principles, the press released said.
OpenAI said that “the creation of beneficial AGI will be the most important technological development in human history, with the potential to shape the trajectory of humanity.”
Alongside the co-founder, Elon Musk, is Sam Alman (the CEO of OpenAI), Ilya Sutskever, and Greg Brockman.
